Natural ways to Fertilze the safe way for your plants and the enviroment,

Use all your vegetable paring, like lettuce leaves carrot peels, potato peelings, orange, lemon and grapefruit rinds, egg-shells pea pods etc. throw them all in your electric blender and turn them into liquid. Pour around your outdoor plants.

Save all your fish scraps, put them in th e blender and pour into ice cube trays and when you're ready to fertilize throw a fish cube into your plant water.

Chicken bones turn into bone meal faster then most other bones. If you bury them by some of your favorite plants they will decompose and channel water fater to the roots of your plants.

Banana skins have lots of potash in them. Roses love potash. Dig in around your rose bushes.

Natural ways to Richen your Soil

If you want richer soil bury chopped up vegetables and coffe grounds, tea leaves, fruit peels plus watermelon rinds etc. and they will enrich your soil as they break down.

Hair clipping are rich in nitrogen. Use human and dog hair.

Natural Insect Repelents

Use fresh foliage of yarrow leaves. When crushed and rubbed over mosquito bites will remove the sting. Fill a vase with yarrow and place where you are sitting will discourage mosquitos.

Build a shelf underneath a outside light and place a shallow pan with two inches of water and pour a quarter of an inch of oil on the top. When the mosquitos go after the light they will end up down in the water and oil.

Get rid of insects

To keep squirrels from eating your plants, sprinkle your plants with cayenne pepper. The cayenne pepper doesn't hurt the plant and the squirrels won't come near it.

Put small piles of cornmeal where you see ants. They eat it, take it 'home,' can't digest it so it kills them. It may take a week or so, especially if it rains, but it works and you don't have the worry about pets or small children being harmed!

To get rid of pesky fruit flies, take a small glass, fill it 1/2' with Apple Cider Vinegar and 2 drops of dish washing liquid; mix well. You will find those flies drawn to the cup and gone forever!

Recycle items to help the environment - some simple suggestions are:

Save your empty plastic bottles. Cut off the bottom and the top third of the bottle and you will have a thick piece of wonderful plastic to be cut into tags. Also save the styrofoam trays from your supermarket, they also can be used as labels or tags. Use a ball-point and write on the smooth side of the styrofoam, if the ink washes away you will still have the embossed part left from the pen.

Plant in pots of light soil indoors for 6 or 8 weeks before plants are to be set outside.  Plant in open ground when all danger of cold weather has passed.  Plant in shaded area with enriched soil.  Keep moist throughout summer.

Daffodils any type of soil is good for growing daffodils as well as it is well drained.  They will not survive is wet soils.  Topdress in early fall with superphosphate and in early spring with a complete fertilizer.  Plant is masses or in small groups among other plants.  Also naturalize among trees.  If clumps are left to long  in one place and will not bloom dig up after foliage has died down separate the bulbs fertilize the soil and replant.

Oriental Poppy is an erect perennial with magnificent flowers 4 to 6 inches across.  Will not flower until the second season.  When planting give ample room.  Tip the plant to a 45 degree angle this helps avoid crown rot.  Water in dry spells until leaves turn brown then the roots can take a summer baking

Poppy Seeds sprinkle on light and sandy well drained soil.  Plant where they are to grow. They do not transplant easy.  Thin as needed.  They look best in large clumps.  Full sun is best.  If left undisturbed most will reseed.

Potentillas are low-growing blooms a long time and will withstand poor soil conditions if necessary.  All need a good sunny location

Rugosa Roses are very hardy.  They can  grow in the very cold where very few roses will grow.  They also can be used as large shrubs or hedges.  They make a great background for smaller plant.  Just prune broken branches in the spring or to reduce size.
I treat my rugosa roses the same as the hybrid tea roses.  I fertilize once a month in active growing.  They need very little care and are very beautiful
